Sweet Spaghetti

Is what I had for dinner last night. I'd made it before (look here!) but last night it didn't taste quite right. I'm not sure what happened.

The other eats are not quite so exciting.

Lunch yesterday...chicken tender, honey mustard, goat cheese + spinach on a sandwich thin.

Breakfast today...

EM w/PB care of the cafeteria.

Lunch today....

Leftover veggie chili.

I hope to bring you something more exciting at dinner time. Please stay tuned.

Detox

I am not drinking again till Easter.

Good thing that's right around the corner huh? :)

But seriously - brunch and my date last night have done me in. I've reached my quota for the week and then some.

And I'm sure it's the wine but those 3 lbs I gained last week were gone this AM. YAY!

Anyway...things to tell you:

  1. My apartment? Still looks like that picture from yesterday
  2. The weather? Absymal. I wore wellies to work and my feet are still wet.
  3. The date? Pretty good actually. Funny though - we went to the same place (not surprising I picked it) but also sat in the same spot and had the same waiter as my last date. Better result this time though I'd say. We'll see...
  4. Chorus? I might not make it there tonight. I do have a second rehearsal on Thurs that I will go to come hell or high water. Actually - it's the high water that's keeping me from going tonight. I'm a delicate flower who wilts so in the bad weather.
  5. Wallet? I bought a new one. I no longer feel like an irresponsible child for losing it. I'll feel better when I start to fill it up with all the replacement cards etc. but it's an important step.
  6. Breakfast? Something to sop up the red wine:

I have 2 choices for lunch. I brought frozen veggie chili and a sandwich that I was going to bring to rehearsal.

If I do blow off rehearsal I will finish my apartment this evening. So it is written. So it shall be done.

Catch you later. Stay dry!

Spring Cleaning

I spent all day yesterday a) recovering from brunch b) cleaning my humble abode.

The bad news? My wallet wasn't lurking anywhere here. :( And I looked EVERYWHERE.

There's so much more room in here when my coffee table is shoved up against the couch. And also when it's piled like a hoarder lives here.

The tip of the shoe iceberg...

Sweeping and vacuuming. FUN.

This is actually so much better than it was yesterday. I just ran out of steam. Yes. I bought my couches during my Laura Ashley period. Why do you ask?

Lots of work today and not very interesting eats but here you go.

Dinner last night - anything that wouldn't mess up my kitchen.

Leftover pizza. This was lunch too incidentally.

Today's breakfast.

Today's lunch.

Yep. Chicken tenders and leftover breakfast potatoes.

It was a very beige day.

I have a date tonight. At around 5 I'm running to the gym and then running to meet him at 6:30.

Anyway...we'll see. I'll keep you posted.

Brunch Bunch - West 3rd Common

My friends and I are big on get togethers. We're also big on brunch. Yesterday brunch was at West 3rd Common.

A good time was had by all. Definitely me for sure. Good thing I went to the gym and ran 2 miles beforehand.

Problem #1. Unlimited Screwdrivers.

I built my own grilled cheese. Goat cheese, pancetta, caramelized onions and arugula.

Interesting reading...

The place was really open and airy but cozy too.

Damage was done.

Then the games began.

Clue a la Seinfeld

Connect Four!

Somehow we ended up at Gonzalez y Gonzalez.

I need to report that I did not drink this margarita.

Mostly because I had a severe case of the hiccups.

I left for brunch at 12:30 and walked the mile and a half there. I got home at 9 PM.

It was a good day.

Today I'm cleaning my apartment from top to bottom in hopes my wallet is still lurking about. I've replaced nearly everything - but it's just the principle of the thing now. I cannot believe it was stolen. I'm much more apt to believe I misplaced it based on the circumstances.

We shall see. Wish me luck.

Oh! This morning I had an egg sandwich and some potatoes.

Now I'm off. See you later.

Catch up

Where were we?

Oh yeah. Thursday night - I met my mom and Jen for dinner at Park Avenue Bistro.

I had some white wine and a delicious scallop dish over creamy cauliflower puree.

Jen had a delicious looking pistachio chicken salad - Mom had a burger.

And we ordered dessert. Mom & Jen the apple tart.

I ate every last bite of the chocolate mousse.

Yesterday I finally had my appointment with the surgeon. The verdict? I am going to get my gallbladder out - but the timing is just bad. He needs two weeks to schedule the surgery - I'm going away on April 11. Then after that I have my concert at Carnegie Hall. I can't do it right after vacation...

So. Anyway. I feel better talking to the surgeon. He said I'm in a gray area - qualifying for surgery but not in massive constant pain. My diet does a lot to keep the attacks to a mimimum. I could basically live like this forever but I don't want to. I'm a person who has a very high tolerance for pain but why should I be in pain randomly for the rest of my life?

I don't think I should. Getting it out is a cure and I'm all for cures these days.

So...I'm still taking it easy but I missed peanut butter SO MUCH that I caved and had this for breakfast yesterday.

I went to my appointment then had a quick pretzel and hummus snack when I got home. After a stressful afternoon I decided again to have what I really wanted for dinner.

That = pizza.

The crust - Trader Joe's Sea Salt and Basil Ciabbata flatbread.

The sauce - doctored up with a little red wine, crushed red pepper, oregano, basil (fresh + dried) roasted garlic and onion.

The pizza topped with orange bell pepper, fresh mozzarella, ricotta, roasted tomatoes, spinach and fresh basil.

Delicious.

And that brings us to today. A repeat of yesterday's breakfast.

The agenda: Gym then brunch with the girls. $20 with unlimited adult beverages.

It's going to be a long day. :)

Still kicking.

I'm here - and alive. I've just had a rough day and need a little break I think. If I can get my act together later I'll post pics of last night's dinner (delish - I want to make creamy cauliflower now), the return of peanut butter (I'm a low fat rebel), the state of my gallbladder, men who want to me meet me and other such things.

But tonight - I'm making a veggie pizza and vegging out.

See you in the AM.

Lost

I think I lost my wallet. It's been a distressing day to say the very least.

I have no idea where it is. I had it when I paid the bill last night - then I walked home. When I went to switch handbags this morning it was MIA. I called and spoke to the bartender who was there last night and she said she didn't find it.

No one had used my cards or anything by the time I'd noticed so that was one blessing.

Does being incredibly annoyed burn calories?

I ate this for breakfast...

EM w/Laughing Cow Garlic and Herb

I ate this for lunch....

Leftover pasta w/chicken in the sauce + extra chicken and some spinach and basil

I walked to work b/c my Metrocard? In my wallet.

UGH. So annoying. Please pray it's in the apartment somewhere. I'm getting new credit/debit cards but the rest of my life stuck in that wallet is what's the most frustrating thing about losing it.

Also frustrating? At my age every other guy I meet online has 1 or more kids. I absolutely love kids - do not get me wrong but dating/relationships are sometimes hard enough as is.

But it's a lot to think that there are a lot of people who get to my age without having kids in the picture already so....there you go.

Sorry. Terribly grumpy today.

Tonight I'm meeting my mom and Jen at the Park Ave Bistro for dinner before we head to the Prince George Ballroom for a fundraiser for my sister-in-law's hospital.

Tipsy

Yeah that's right.

This'll be quick.

Lunch. Spinach + 1 chicken tender + onion + orange bell pepper + shaved pepperjack + Ken's Light Vidalia Onion.

After work, Patti and I went to Madison & Vine.

We split this $90 bottle of wine that we got half price b/c the bartender is awesome.

I am hardly a wine snob (hello CAVIT!) but this was go-od.

We ate this. I ate more fruit than cheese.

I came home and had a little bit of leftover pasta.

I'm watching American Idol and am going to bed. I think the Jonas Brothers are all Creepy Creepersons. And this Demi chick can't sing.

Then again I think people might have said the same about Duran Duran in the mid-80s.

Alright. Time for bed. See you in the AM.

Up :(

I'm such a bad blogger but Tuesdays really wear me out. Lunch yesterday was leftover shrimp and fettucini, asparagus + spinach.

Dinner was 1 chicken tender, a spread of goat cheese, honey mustard and spinach on a sandwich thin.

I may also have had some TJ's light pita chips and garlic hummus dip before I headed out to rehearsal.

Which brings us to today. I had a very hectic morning. I didn't sleep well last night and was up till about 2 AM. I woke up, ate this...

...and then ran to the gym. 2 miles later (and something pulled in my hip) I got home, showered, changed and then ran to see M.

Who told me I gained 3-ish pounds. :(

Damnit.

As frustrating as that is, I'm not stressing too much. I've been eating my weight in carbs, stopped exercising a bit when I first found out about my fate. I figure after surgery I'll lose a few pounds anyway!

I do have to be careful - as I also won't be able to exercise much for a while after they yank this sucker out.

Webcasts today. All day. I'll be back later.

Have a good one!!

Fancy

My niece Madeleine loves Fancy Nancy. She also loves getting dressed up. Apparently I have been a constant source of disappointment for the poor child of late.

When I was heavier I rarely wore jeans. Like almost never. At my largest I had 2 pairs of trouser jeans that I thought looked OK. I never wore jeans with sneakers back then - boots only. Jeans that fit me were too baggy and those that didn't made me gasp for breath.

The rest of the time was spent in a myriad of black elastic waist pants if I'm being completely honest.

Anyway - now that I'm thinner I wear jeans often. Like this past Sunday at brunch.

Maddie was not amused. I have now been ordered to bring 2 dresses with me on vacation next month.

I'm going to weigh in tomorrow and I'm 99.9% sure that I'm going to have gained. This lower fat (because who am I kidding - buttered english muffins and ham and cheese do not a low fat diet make) and increase in pasta from the last two weeks have taken its toll (thanks Jen for the edit!). I'm not sure I still want to go. I can't work out today save some walking as I have chorus tonight.

Sigh. I'll decide later.

Enough lamenting. Where did I leave off?

Oh. Lunch yesterday. The best sandwich. Whole wheat roll, hummus, honey mustard, turkey and cheddar with spinach.

Dinner - Chicken with the sauce. It's so good but did I take pictures? No. So no step by step - no recipe. I suck.

But this didn't. Delicious. I added some peas and some baby spinach.

Dessert - Skim Chocolate Milk and a handful of Teddy Grahams.

Breakfast was eaten today in the car. I got a ride in with my mom who had to be in court downtown.

That's the news for now. See you in a bit.
