Friday to Saturday

After a very pleasant bus ride I arrived to the heart of LI Wine Country. I helped unload the car, had a hamburger (unpictured) then went and got a mani/pedi.

I love this color. It's called a Splash of Grenadine.

I had a slice Grandma pizza and salad for dinner.

And later I had a garlic knot.

And Pinot Grigio.

It's going to be a pleasantly packed house this weekend. Jen has friends coming (Marjorie is already here) and Dave is on his way shortly. Jen and Marge went and got egg sandwiches this AM. I had bacon, egg and cheese on a roll.

Allie was hopeful my dad would share.

The bulk of today will be spent here. I cannot wait!!

What are you doing this fine Saturday???

Cooper!!!

Oh man. Thanks Melissa for making me feel like a very bad aunt!!

Something else very important happened yesterday. I have a new niece. Her name is Cooper. She's very, very, very cute and I can't wait to meet her in person.

Her sisters are the two cutest things I've ever seen so she has a lot to live up to.

It's been so crazy here I can't believe I neglected to mention it!

I was up pretty early today as I am heading out around 1 to catch the bus to the east end. It's gloomy today. I went out to CVS to grab a few things this morning and there's this thing that happens when I go to CVS. I pass this other place where I often stop for breakfast.

It takes every fiber of my being not to order the chicken biscuit. Really. I have to stop myself from saying it when I get to the counter. I have rules now. Rules that I am letting slip a little bit lately but basically I can eat at McDonald's if all I order is Egg McMuffins, Grilled Chipotle Chicken Snack Wraps or a small fry.

I cannot have Southern Chicken Biscuits or Quarter Pounders.

Those are my rules and I'm trying desperately to stick to them.

I have gained about 6 lbs over the summer. All things considered it's not terrible. My clothes still fit and I've been enjoying myself. But I really need to get back to journaling and exercising. And when I eat out leaving half of what I order on my plate.

I think that's really the key.

But...even as I say that I'm looking forward to a weekend of food and wine. :)

I'll be back with more details soon enough.

Promise!

A date with Chuck

So I'm finally home in NYC. It's good to be here. I'm about to rush off again - spending the weekend on the North Fork w/the family but these last 2 days have been great.

I couldn't even see for the better part of yesterday afternoon I was so tired. Here's a little recap as to what I've eaten.

Tuesday morning I had leftover steak, eggs and asparagus.

I didn't really eat lunch. I munched on some pretzels and hummus and might have also had a slice of bread with PB.

Dinner was at Sonic because Dave likes using the heated seat thing in his car when his back is bad.

We had tots and rings.

And a burger too.

Yesterday I had a half a PB sandwich for breakfast. Again...no lunch really so dinner was 2 kinds of oven fries and 2 97% fat free hot dogs.

Breakfast today was an EM w/PB and a glass of chocolate milk.

I had a tuna sandwich on whole wheat and BBQ PopChips for lunch. I could have sworn I took a picture. Hmmm....

I went to Zumba (YAY!) and then, because I found out Dave is cheating on me by going to trivia tonight with a (much) younger woman* I made myself a pizza....

...and had a date with this guy.

For $2 it's really not bad at all.

Pizza was made with TJ's whole wheat dough, TJ's pizza sauce, fresh mozzarella and ricotta, parmesan and some crushed red pepper and garlic.

It was yummy.

I'll catch you tomorrow and hopefully be a better blogger in the days to come.

* don't panic. He took Mora to trivia tonight. :)

Abducted

Since Thursday I've been held captive in NJ. I did get to go out a little bit - like to the ER, the A&P, CVS, H&M for more clothes - pretty much anyplace that had initials in its name (I have some very weird captors).

Though I know my services were needed and I was happy to assist, rumor has it I'm being sprung tomorrow. :)

Last night I was treated to dinner though and had a glimpse of what freedom would be like. I'm wondering if my apartment is still standing and what happened on the Real Housewives of NJ last night.

I haven't seen Mad Men either - so don't spoil me.

The pics are small today since I had to use my Blackberry camera last night. We went to Longhorn Steakhouse.

We started with Wild West Shrimp.

Dave had a T-Bone Steak.

I had a filet and some Pinot Noir.

And we split half of this chocolate monstrosity for dessert. The other half is in the freezer.

We both left plenty on our plates and we had steak and eggs for breakfast this morning.

I'm craving crowds, Zumba and the subway today. It's back to the office tomorrow.

Last time on Single Serving...

Hello there.

Last I saw you it was Thursday. Then Friday Dave threw his back out and I've had more pressing responsibilities.

The good news? A lot of those were in the kitchen.

The bad news? I didn't always remember my camera. :(

Lots of tomato based products.

But first - just in case you were wondering - before the 'injury' we had pretzels at trivia.

Dave made gazpacho.

I made roasted tomato sauce. We had it tonight over breaded chicken cutlets.

Master Chef Mora made salad and garlic knots.

I made baked 'ziti' with turkey meat sauce.

The garden was full of green things.

So today I made Fried Green Tomatoes.

Because I'm older and I have more insurance. ;)

I'll be back soon with more coherent updates.
