Three Ring Circus

So last night I talked to a Go-Go dancer wearing a white afro, a hipster magician and watched two women hang from the ceiling.

Ahhh New York. How I love you.

Bagatelle , RdV and Kiss and Fly invited us to see their space last night.

Stacked in a row in the Meatpacking District - these are the types of places I go when...you know...invited for free.

But I will say I really liked the space at RdV and could see myself at brunch at Bagatelle.

All in all it was a good, if slightly bizarre, night.

Here are some pictures so you'll feel like you were there. Maybe. Food pics came out pretty blurry though. :(

From RdV.

From Bagatelle.

And the party at Kiss and Fly. The aforementioned Go-Go dancers. One of them sat to talk to us and it was very disconcerting.

We sat under a kind of gazebo.

White wine

Saffron risotto cakes (these were my favorite!)

Shrimp cocktail

Crab Napolean

Mini Ham and Cheese

and me and Patti. :)

I am going away for the weekend to the beach, heading out this afternoon (T minus 3 hours and counting) and I cannot wait. This means I am traveling sans computer. :( But I promise I will be back with all the delicious details in a day or two.

Have a great weekend!

Dear Vending Machine:

It is entirely your fault that I ened up with Lays Kettle Chips in Harvest Ranch as you had no baked variety to offer me to go with my tuna wrap.

Please don't let that happen again.

Love,
Krissy

Those stupid chips were really, really good.

To combat the party hors d'oeuvres I also packed a snack today. Some pretzels and Cedars. YUM.

More later!

Swings and Things

So sorry for the delay. I was so tired when I got home last night. Here we go with a Wednesday update.

I love the summer. If pressed I'd say fall or spring were my preferred seasons for weather but I really think it's the end of May/early June and the end of September that are my very favorite time of year. Summer's almost here or the fall is upon us. It's not too hot nor too cold. I guess it's my version Goldilocks. They're both just right. :)

And to clarify again I mean weather wise. I also really, really love Thanksgiving and Christmas.

But that's a post for another time.

First, the food.

Snack of pretzels and cheddar cheese.

Tuna wrap, BBQ PopChips, delicious garlicky pickle.

I think this pickle would make an excellent fried pickle. :)

Then after work it was drinks at the Southwest Porch in Bryant Park.

There was a time when I'd be on the east side of the park waiting to get into the meat (or is it meet?) market that is the Bryant Park Cafe. And not meeting anyone worthwhile while there either come to think of it.

Instead I sipped wine while sitting on a porch swing and eating some excellent guacamole. Plus the Porch is very reasonable. Beer, wine, cocktails and snacks for $8 and under. Can't wait to go there again.

Then I took some pictures of the sunset on 41st Street.

I made this one antique like in iPhoto. I like this shot a lot.

It was then more snacky type things at Croton Reservoir Tavern where Carrie reminded me I went once with her BEFORE a wine tasting.

Somehow I don't think that ended well.

Kristen and I shared the Mussels and Chorizo and Hummus. The hummus was tres yum.

Tonight I'm going to an industry event with Patti at Kiss and Fly.

This is how I go clubbing. At 6 PM. :) And for free. I'm not one for VIP table service.

I'm much more suited to porch swings in the park.

Pappardelle Primavera w/Shrimp

For my first food writing assignment, I need to write about an ingredient I love. My task is to talk about shrimp and how I eat it now compared to how I did before I lost weight.

There is a simple answer to that. I used to eat fried shrimp like it was my job and now I...don't. It was honestly my go to order when eating out, though I rarely made it for myself that way. These days, even if there's a bit of oil (and sometimes butter) involved the shrimp I eat are most definitely not dripping in fat.

I used the following for 2 servings:

I took the shells of the shrimp and tossed them in a hot pan, deglazed with white wine. I removed the shells and added onion, simmering till translucent - about a 1/4 cup of onion.

Then I added about a tablespoon of olive oil, 2 cloves of roasted garlic and 6 large shrimp.

I then added a bit of leftover zucchini I had, chopped finely + a pat of butter.

I know. But it really makes such a difference. It was a small pat - that camera angle makes it look monstrous.

Then I added some tomatoes, which I had roasted earlier and some broccoli and asparagus that I steamed quickly before adding.

I tossed with the pasta, some fresh parsley, a little crushed red pepper.

And it was delicious.

Is there something you love that you eat differently now than you did before you were watching your weight? There are things that just don't taste as good unless you eat the full fat version, but this was just as delicious, if not more so, than what I used to eat.

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. It went way too fast for me. The weather is so nice this week I'm finding it REALLy difficult to be inside.

Lunch pics will be up at dinnertime. I forgot the cord for my camera at home. :( Unless I use my cell phone. We'll see what happens.

It's a tuna wrap - so I don't know if you'll really be missing much. :)

Have a happy Wednesday. See you later!
