The Party's Over

My birthday celebration is officially over and I finished it in high style. I'm stuffed to the gills and the gym is SCREAMING my name right now.

It was one of those nights that was rainy and gross - the angry kind of rain as my friend Maddy mentioned last night. It comes at you from all sides. On my way downtown I got splashed Carrie Bradshaw style.

But worse. Much, much worse. Like 'I was wiping gross NYC street water off my chin' worse. Like 'it was lucky I was wearing jeans so no one could really tell I was saturated' worse.

We started with a quick slice of pizza - which I'd show you but the only picture I have is a half eaten folded slice. Not exactly appetizing.

Then we moved on to The Skinny which I picked because it was supposed to have a cheapy cheap Happy Hour - but the wine is $8 a glass. This is why you shouldn't drink wine in a dive bar I guess. The wine was fine - just not cheap.

Stick to the well drinks or beer is what I'm saying.

While there we met a documentary filmmaker who first guessed we were teachers - then scientists. He invited us to a screening of his film and showed us Isabella Rossalini pretending to have sex as a bee and a snail on his iPhone.

He also said he'd buy me a shot for my birthday but that didn't happen. All talk that guy! I don't doubt any part of his story - but you really do meet so many interesting characters in the city.

Anyway - later that night (like at 10:30) we finally had dinner at The Stanton Social.

And it was so good. I also got to celebrate with some of my favorite people in the world. Love you girls!!

We opted for the Prix-Fix and it was way too much food. And way too expensive. The next time we go we'll have to remember that.

There was wine, of course.

Grilled Ovendried Tomato Pizzetta - w/fresh mozzarella & grana, roasted garlic and chile oil

French Onion Soup Dumplings. I might have had 3 of these! So good.

Potato and Goat Cheese Pierogies with carmelized onion & truffle creme fraiche

Grilled apple & brie Quesidilla w/mustard maple glaze and smoked bacon bits

Kobe Beef Burgers, Rhode Island Lobster Rolls

My share w/herb dusted fries on the side:

Chicken n'Waffles - brick pressed chicken, aged cheddar waffle, corn pudding & baslamic spiked maple syrup and grilled asparagus w/lemon oil and sea salt

This was so amazing I can't even tell you. I mean I can - but you can't really know unless you taste it.

Then there was dessert.

Cookies...

...and Warm Doughnuts with caramel, chocolate and raspberry dipping sauces

My friends made me take all the leftovers - so that's what was for breakfast today. I had the quesadillas. I figured bacon, apples, cheese...sounded breakfast-y to me.

I'm in a lazy mood and am planning on a lazy day - but the gym is still calling. Looking at this post is all the motivation I'll need today.

Happy Saturday to you!

  1. Wow, that's an obscene amount of food. It looks delicious, and it's wonderful you got to take home all the leftovers. Mmm...donuts. ;)

  2. It was really too much. There were 7 of us but still. Not necessary.

I did not take the donuts home. My friend brought them home to her boyfriend. Guys can burn stuff like that off much faster!
