Shopping Sunday

I'm back!

I now realize the only day I can't ever go to the Trader Joe's on 14th Street unless I go exactly when it opens on a Sat or Sun. There were at least 60 people lined up outside at about 8:45 this morning.

In-freaking-sane.

I went to Whole Foods first - since it opened at 8.

Here's a rundown of my yummy loot. I always try to bring my own bags - especially when I'm not going to a store just around the corner like I usually do. This is my little sassy (old lady) cart. It folds down so I can store it and it really holds a lot.

I spent almost the exact same amount at both stores. It was expensive (around $100 total) but I did get a lot of stuff.

From Whole Foods:

Grape Tomatoes
Asparagus
Broccoli
Vidalia onion
Red pepper
Serrano chili
lemons
bananas
Roasted Garlic hummus
Flat leaf parsley
Also hidden under the broccoli a hunk of parmigianno regiano and Emmenthaler (which was on sale)

Organic ground beef (dinner tonight!)
Boneless skinless chicken breast
Frozen crinkle cut fries (dinner tonight!)
Tilapia filets
some pre-sliced peppers for salad this week

From TJ's - all sorts of goodies!

Sea Salt pita chips
BBQ PopChips
Dark Chocolate Covered Edamame
Dark Chocolate pretzels
2 Luna Bars (to take with me on my trip later this week)
Whole wheat English Muffins (so much cheaper than Thomas' - even though I love them)

Baby Spinach
Spring Mix

Frozen Uncooked Jumbo Shrimp
Frozen asparagus
Extra Sharp Cheddar
Frozen peas
Whole wheat pizza dough
Light Sour Cream
Cashews

Quinoa
Plum Tomatoes w/basil
Marinara Sauce

TJ's has a good selection of fresh flowers. This one was on sale for $3.99 and it was called "Rosy Outlook". I couldn't resist. I love having fresh flowers in the apartment.

I had myself a little snack. A serving size of the pita chips and some hummus.

I'm heading out again a little later to go buy myself some running shoes. I've never bought sneakers for a specific purpose so I'm interested to see what it's like to have the right footwear. I'm not sure but I think it'll make a significant difference to have a new pair of shoes.

You know what? That tends to be my basic philosophy in life. :)

  1. It's amazing to me that you have that much money to burn. $100 for groceries??? Man, I try to keep it at no more than $42. What market do you have near you where the produce is "so crappy?"

  3. Well - I don't really have money to burn. I make most of my meals and going out for me is more of a treat. The market closest to me is an Associated supermarket and most days it's fine. There are times though that they don't stock enough or what's left is really picked over and on it's last legs. Often times basic things like onions and such are in really bad shape. Their herbs always look sad and wilted.

My typical shop is about $50-60 every 2-3 weeks. The last time I went to TJ's was in June so what I bought today is not a normal occurance - more of a 'stocking up'.

deleted my earlier post for inaccuracies. :)
